Hilton Displays' First-Ever Cornhole Tournament

Playing cornhole at tailgates is fun but playing cornhole at work is more fun. With the holidays approaching, Quality Assurance Manager, Jose Hernandez created a engaging event for all the Hilton Displays employees. He said, “We work hard, and we wanted to bring our team together.” When asked why he chose cornhole, he said, “It’s something everyone can do, and we wanted to include everyone.”

Starting Monday, November 14th, Hernandez created a company-wide tournament bracket. The bracket started initially with 32 games. Round one of the tournament was completed in a day with employees’ playing during their fifteen-minute breaks. Games were energetic and electric. Spectators and players gathered to watch their friends win (or lose) and to cheer them on from the sidelines. The cheering was so loud, it could be heard from Hilton Displays’ front office.
After completing rounds 2 and 3 during the week, the final tournament game was played on Thursday, November 17th. In the finale, Vanoy Sullivan (Estimator) and Jay Earlwine (CAD) went head-to-head for the title. The competitors were evenly matched, and the game continued back and forth for fifteen minutes. With two final throws, Vanoy landed a bag in the hole and a bag on the board. Jay missed his throw, and Vanoy was crowned champion. His winning prize was $200 and the glory. When asked what he was going to do with the money, Vanoy said, “I am going to take my wife out to a very nice restaurant where she can get whatever she wants off the $1 Menu.” Since the success of Hilton Displays’ first cornhole tournament, a second one is being planned, and employees can hardly contain their excitement.
